April Issue 2015

For all the current race brutality that's been going on figured this song fit for the issues we still face today:

My thoughts on Carnivore’s”Race War” (Song Review)

So one might think of me as being racist for posting about this song or talking about its meaning, but actually, if one reads the lyrics I believe Carnivore’s “Race War” is more about the hatred humanity brings upon itself rather than an anthem for hate mongers. The stereotypes man implicates through media manipulation has lead to Black vs. White, Red vs. Yellow, Muslim vs. Jew, Christians vs. Protestants. Man has the nature to hate what he/she doesn’t understand. By putting boundaries amongst ourselves and upon other cultures, traditions where implicating the mass destruction of the human race as we know it. You think after years of suffering and war, man would understand, but unfortunately, they do not. I can’t say that Peter Steele was being ironic by writing this song, but after reading it over, it’s the sad truth that we deal with even to this day.

Not one but three new issues up!!! March 2015 Issue

Been busy as hell as of late, and feel bad for not keeping up with this. So here is the March,April and May editions of the zine. Going to take time to work on the June,July and Aug issues so that way this doesn't happen again.

Hope you enjoy starting with the March isssue:

It Follows (Movie Review)

Not a lot of films that have come out in the recent years have impressed me, but the recently released David Robert Mitchell film “It Follows” is one worth checking out. The premise of the story revolves around a young girl named Jay Height, who has a strange sexual encounter with her boyfriend Hugh.  Jay is told that she will be followed by an entity unless she has sex with someone else.  Otherwise it will seek her out and kill her. The movie itself revolves around her and her friends as she is plagued with visions of being followed by strange people, leaving her wondering whose real or not real, leaving you with an anxious feeling. After finding out that Hugh’s real name is Jeff Redmond, the plot unveils itself more as the movie continues, (which I won’t spoil for anyone). From what I’ve read, there has been a lot of debate over what exactly the movie represents, or what the director’s message was trying to relay.  From what I gathered, it seemed that the film could be talking about several things, for example:
The lingering fear of sexual disease, or the shame that follows one around.
The repressed feelings or experiences that lurk in our minds.
Wasted time in relationships leading to unhappy results.
The movie itself is very dark and menacing, slowly creeping upon you when you least expect it. The soundtrack, created by artist, Disaster Peace, fits very well with the film.  It gives off a very 70s/80s horror themed sound. For fans of supernatural horror films, I recommend this one.  You won’t be disappointed.

February Issue is Up!!

Its been a chaotic last couple of months, but here it is the first Cryptic Inscriptions issue of 2015!!! The article pertains to human communication being killed off by technology. The Einstein quote says its best!! Enjoy....

                                          Communication at a Loss

Who would have ever thought that something so simple as a conversation would put us in danger of extinction? Not something many of us think about in this day in age with the brink of the technological breakthroughs and a  world at our finger tips which should breed knowledge, power and a sense of oneness which really  has left many of us lonely, distant and detached from each other. Things move fast and as they do we ourselves are slowly forgetting simple things such as family, friends, and just the simple notion of kindness and manners. Beyond the logical reasoning, there is even more to this. This might seem like a nostalgic memoir that connotes  the end of an era and the beginning of another, but the rule of thumb is simple.  We're talking about human evolution, and at this point, it's more of a regression than a progression. The development of the internet, Iphones and whatever means of technological communication in turn, has been developed to enhance our communication, and our connection to the world, which is literally at our fingertips. In the end, it leaves us imprisoned in our rooms, never taking the  opportunity to see the outside world. Talk to someone online for hours, see them in person or on the street, and never say a word to them. Basically where I’m getting at exactly if our basic skills are reduced to rubble we might as well cease to exist. The agenda has definitely been made clear, and at the end of the day, the human word and the needs of communication and unity can be a danger to many who are higher in power. In theory, I believe we are basically reliving the Tower of Babel once more, the closer we are to unity and success the more our superiors fear us. The analogy, simply put, is the more scattered and distant we are from each other, the more in control they are. The more the human spirit is killed the more of advantage they have. Unity has nothing to do with language at all, if the notions and the ideals are the same.  Whatever the language, we can all stand firm together. The more robotic you are, the easier it is to control .So before you send that next text or email think about it for a moment and go out and actually meet people instead of living in an artificial world that really doesn’t exist.

Napalm Death "From Enslavement to Obliteration" LP Review

Napalm Death “From Enslavement to Obliteration” LP

Upon first listen about 12 years ago, this album was the beginning for me and my first introduction into the genre of grindcore.  This album still remains my favorite after all these years. The opening track “Evolved as One” sets a weird Swans esque apocalyptic tone, which also closes the record out as well.  Don’t let that fool you though, because what starts as dark and slow immediately beats you into the ground with fast chaotic drumming, down tuned heavy guitars, fuzzed bass and the high pitched shrieks and guttural growls.  The musical ensemble of drummer Mick Harris, guitarist Bill Steer and bassist Shane Embury fuel the chaos of the machine, while vocalist Lee Dorian’s trademark vocals speak the message at hand. Even though this isn’t the most well produced record sound quality wise, it’s still a great record none the less. It captures the band at their youth and inexperience that everyone who’s ever been in a band knows about.  These were 4 angry youths coming together, creating something that possibly in their minds might have never went anywhere.  It eventually lead to inspire countless others and has also led the band and its members on promising careers, leaving Embury being the only original member.  This is a record for the ages, and I’m sure it will continue to inspire others introduced into the genre for years to come. Key tracks are “Unchallenged Hate”, “Retreat to Nowhere”, “It’s a M.A.N.S world”, Cock Rock Alienation” and “Dead”.

This will be the final review I'll be doing for the year. Next year will bring a new era for Cryptic Inscriptions with articles concerning various current events, conspiracy theories etc. Happy holidays and a happy new year to all....

Hotel Neon "Self Titled" Cassette EP Review

Hotel Neon “Self Titled” Cassette EP

Baltimore Maryland’s Hotel Neon, ( which is comprised of  twin brothers Michael and Andrew Tasselmyer), came together to record this 7 song album of hypnotic and inspiring drones that draws the listener in, with a variety of sounds and melodies all created with various guitars and effects. When I listened to this the first time, all I could imagine was sitting on a mountain inhaling fresh air, taken away from the chaos of the modern world. I felt very much at peace when I listened to this album. It’s beautiful and majestic, but it also has a very melancholy sound, depending on how you perceive it from listening. I could definitely see this being played in the back drop for various scenes, from the dark galaxy of space, to the illuminating skies shinning on mountain tops. To all the drone and ambient enthusiasts, definitely recommend this for you…
